Nutrition and Hydration in Children’s Palliative Care

A half day workshop, exploring the practical, emotional and ethical issues surrounding the use of clinically assisted nutrition and hydration in children living with life limiting conditions and in the last hours and days of life.

At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Outline options for clinically assisted nutrition and hydration for babies and children in the last hours and days of life available in different care settings
  • Describe the ethical and legal principles underpinning withholding or withdrawing clinically assisted nutrition and hydration for babies and children in the last hours and days of life
  • Working with colleagues, use a balance sheet to weigh up individual benefits and dis-benefits of clinically assisted nutrition and hydration for a baby or child in the last hours and days of life
  • Working with the patient, their family, colleagues, and available guidance, devise and implement a personalised care plan for eating and drinking for a child in the last hours and days of life

Tea and coffee will be provided. Participants are expected to make their own arrangements for lunch.
