Research Group

Aim

To bring together individuals with an interest in Children’s Palliative Care Research and related fields from academic institutions and clinical practice, both statutory and voluntary sectors, across the Northwest with the aim of providing support for children’s palliative care research.

Objectives

To support children’s palliative care research in the Northwest through:

  • Fostering collaboration
  • Providing expertise to identify research priorities
  • Providing expertise to facilitate research design
  • Providing a network to facilitate recruitment of interested centres into multicentre research projects
  • Supporting and developing new and established researchers
  • Providing a forum to facilitate translation of research into clinical practice
  • Providing an infrastructure to identify potentially relevant funding streams
  • Providing an infrastructure to identify potentially relevant academic meetings and conferences
  • Facilitating, through a collaborative approach, co-ordinated, timely and ultimately successful applications for funding

Membership

Membership is open to

  • All professionals from the Northwest with an interest in children’s palliative care research.
  • Service users – parents children and young people
  • A chair will be elected from within the group. The chair will hold office for a period of 3 years with the opportunity to stand for re-election on for one further consecutive turn
  • Core membership will include at least one representative from
    • The geographical area covered by each of the Northwest Children’s Palliative Care Zonal Networks
    • Each of the academic institutions active in children’s palliative care and related research in the Northwest: Liverpool University, Liverpool John Moore’s University, University of Central Lancashire, Lancaster University, Manchester University, Chester College

Meetings

  • The group will meet at least three times a year and will have additional meetings as required
